Concours d’Lemons
This show almost didn’t happen, as the last two years were money losers for the organizers. Seaside must have been feeling neglected with the all limelight being shown on its neighboring Monterey so they graciously allowed the Concours d’Lemons to be staged in a small park across from City Hall. Somehow, the organizers must have convinced someone (or bribed) so that their cars could be allowed past the Salinas city line without their rabies shots. Because of the late date announcing that it was a go, the gathering of the worse of the automotive kingdom was thankfully limited. A very rare oddball that did show (& win Kommunist Kar award) was a 1948 Tatraplan sporting a VW engine. The rest were so hopelessly forgettable that I already forgot. If Seaside lets them pass the city limits next year, the show should bring
some truly hideous automobiles wheeling their way to coast to contrast with all that shiny metal in Monterey.
